Reiki Healing

Reiki (pronounced “RAY-key”) is a practice of meditation and hands-on energy healing originating in Japan that promotes relaxation, stress reduction, health, and well-being. Similar to acupuncture, Reiki is believed to improve pain by balancing and strengthening the flow of energy in our bodies, and by creating a relaxation response in our nervous system. Research studies have suggested that Reiki can be beneficial in the treatment of pain, stress, anxiety, and depression. Reiki treatments can be performed on oneself or on others, making it both an effective coping strategy for pain and a treatment you can share with friends and family.

Major hospitals, hospices, and rehabilitation facilities in the Boston area now rely on Reiki practitioners to provide this beneficial service to patients who suffer from pain and other conditions.

Please note that Reiki, similar to any other complementary treatment for chronic pain, is to be utilized not as a replacement for conventional medical care but as a beneficial adjunct.

In Reiki classes at Boston PainCare Center, patients will learn:

  • How to use Reiki and meditation strategies to cope with pain and reduce stress
  • An introduction to Reiki and its history
  • A review of the benefits and current evidence for the effectiveness of Reiki
  • Breathing techniques for relaxation and stress-reduction
  • Meditation practices for focus and enhancement of energy flow
  • The basic principles of energy medicine
  • How to perform Reiki treatments on yourself and your loved ones
  • Opportunities for you to continue with your Reiki practice and share this gift with others

Participants also receive a series of attunements (offerings of Reiki from the teacher) which offer an experience of Reiki and support in the ability to utilize this energy for the purpose of healing.

This class will be taught by Matt Roselli, LICSW, and Reiki Teacher.  Matt works as a behavioral pain specialist at Boston PainCare, where he provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Reiki training, and stress reduction techniques for patients with chronic pain. Matt received his Master of Social Work from Boston University, where he developed skills in individual and group therapy, mindfulness training, Reiki, and other relaxation strategies. This Workshop Series will be open to BPC patients, family, and friends.
